Why should you meditate?

Everything we do in life is either because we think it will bring us happiness or at the very least avoid unhappiness.

Given this is our prime motivation you would think that we would always be basking in happiness and rarely if ever encounter unhappiness.

And yet this is not what we find; we are as confused as ever about how to be happy.

What is meditation?

Meditation is the practice of bringing your attention to an object and holding it there.

Most commonly the object is the breath, a mantra or a phrase.

The objects are anchors, something for your mind to hold on to.

If your object is the breath, you place your attention gently on the sensation of the breath.
